🎉 What Is the Folk Dance Residency?
This 5-day school dance residency teaches students traditional folk dances from around the world while building:
- Coordination and rhythm
- Confidence and participation
- Cooperation and courtesy
- A strong sense of community
Students don’t just watch—they actively dance, collaborate, and succeed together.

Through music and movement, students develop:

💃 What Students Learn
Throughout the week, students experience a wide range of cultural dance traditions, including:
- American Square Dance & Contra Dance
- Virginia Reel & Circle Dances
- English Country Dance
- Appalachian Clogging
- African-American Ring Games
- Mexican & Early California dances
- Rhythm and clapping patterns
All activities are age-appropriate and inclusive (K–8).

🎉 The Grand Finale: School-Wide Barn Dance
The residency culminates in a Friday evening Barn Dance:
- Students, families, and staff participate together
- Evo calls dances and plays live music
- A joyful, memorable community event

The event can be held:
- Indoors (multipurpose room)
- Outdoors (if needed)

Friday “Barn Dance” can be outdoors to accommodate the entire school.
